Content Marketing With Video 18 – Video Guest Posting Part 1

by Paul Wolfe on June 19, 2012

This is the first in a short series within a series on Video Guest Posting. Before I go into some strategies and tactics on Video Guest Posting (which will be later posts in this mini-series), here’s an example of a ‘video guest post.’

Background On The Video Guest Post

Danny Iny from Firepole Marketing recently answered over 40 questions from his readers with a video answer to each question.

So here are three of those videos – and the topics I’ve chosen are to do with publishing and books.

Video 1 – How To Publish A Book

Video 2 – Who Can Develop A Marketing Plan For A New eBook

Video 3 How To Compensate Collaborators

Some Quick Thoughts On The Benefits Of Video Guest Posting

(i) There’s no penalties for ‘duplicate content.’  In fact the reverse is true, YouTube counts each of those embeds as a ‘link’ and each of those videos will get ranked better as a result.

(ii) To truly be a ‘guest post’ the author of the videos needs to be available to answer questions.  So as a quid pro quo for embedding the videos Danny Iny has promised to make himself available!  So if you have questions on any of these videos, then please drop a comment below.

(iii) Danny’s Videos will go in front of a new audience.  That’s the ultimate goal here – to get more people checking out your content.  And from Danny’s point of view he’s created the videos already – all he has to do is answer questions.  (See ii above).

(iv)  Imagine the potential for Danny if he can get 10 bloggers to do something like this?

(v) If you have to create a special video for a video guest post, then you can put it on YOUR YouTube channel – so as well as being on someone else’s site, it can also attract traffic via YouTube (and other video aggregators).

Caveat

If you’re talking with someone about a video guest post, and they’re up for the idea BUT they want to host YOUR video on THEIR channel then either: (a) tell them – politely – that this is not acceptable or (b) ask for a payment that’s commensurate with your time investment creating that video.

Summary

I’ll talk more about Video Guest Posting in the next couple of posts….but it’s something I’ve personally benefited from in terms of traffic, links and customers.  If you have any questions for Danny, fire away below.

Video Guest Posting is something I deal with in detail in my new course The Content Marketers Video Playbook – the course goes live on Friday, July 5th.

Hey Paul, thanks for sharing my videos, and for inspiring this whole campaign to begin with! :)

I’ll be hanging out in the comments, so if anyone has questions, I’ll do my best to answer them!

Hey Danny

No problems. Thanks for hanging out and being willing to answer questions. Did any one else embed any of your videos?

Haven’t really tried video guest posting. Thanks for the idea. Looking forward to read more about this stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Danny/Paul,

First Danny… Your series of Videos was/is amazing. I didn’t this with my insurance business and rewards of such a campaign are staggering… STAGGERING!

Second First Paul… I’ve never thought of doing a video guest post… I love video and I love guest posting… I feel like you’re similar to the first guy that said… Peanut Butter… Jelly… They might work together.

My question for Danny is “Did you put any weight into the length of the videos or did you just answer the questions and it was what it was?”

Thanks guys!

Ryan H.

Hey Ryan, that’s a great question, and the answer is that I always just answered the question, and it worked out to whatever length it worked out to. I found them to mostly be in the 2-5 minute range, though. :)

Paul Wolfe June 19, 2012 at 4:11 pm

Hey Ryan

Good to see you, bro. Video Guest Posting is the new black! (LOL)

The length question is a good one….personally I would ignore the ‘goo-roos’ who tell you to keep your videos under 90 seconds. Focus on one thing for each video…and it will roll out how it rolls out. If your content is engaging with your target audience…they’ll sit through 4 minutes or 5 minutes or even more. (I wrote an article about this in 2010! http://www.onespoonatatime.com/what%E2%80%99s-the-right-length-for-a-youtube-style-video

Hi Paul,

Video tutorials and how to’s have become my main help guide over the last few years, mainly because you can click through a video quickly to discern if it has what you need, as opposed to reading through a whole article which turns out to be cobblers.

First of all, thanks for the videos on how to publish eBooks. Video guest posting, i think is an effective way as well. More people love to listen and watch than reading. This can definitely bring in some new flavor in the game. Great idea Paul!

I haven’t tried video guest posting and I guess there aren’t many people who have actually tried it. Am I right? Anyway, you gave a great idea, so I will try it. Maybe I will get some more visitors to my website. Thank you, Paul

Karolina

Just about NOBODY is doing it.

That’s why it’s such a good idea!

Paul
